Where Should I Start In My Homebuying Process? | REALTOR.com ...

questions

Q: I am looking to buy my first home by June 2013 in Covington- Conyers, Ga, I have started working on my credit and saving money for my down payment. What else should I be doing or what are the next steps I should be taking?
?Quentisha, Covington, GA

A: Good for you to be planning ahead so well! It is never too early to start talking to professionals in this industry who can guide you. I would contact a few buyers agents (preferable exclusive buyers agents) in your area to discuss their methods and procedures and get some useful tips. And I would ask for recommendations from them and your friends as to a few good lenders in your are area who can advise you what things to avoid (new credit cards, for example, or charging over 50% of your credit limit). These things can impact your credit score a great deal. I would not go to a builder?s office or attend an open house without my own agent, either. These actions can impact what your agent will be paid if you then later want to buy the home. Best of luck to you!

A: Talk with a mortgage Broker to get pre-approved for a loan and meet with a Realtor(r) to learn about the process so you can hit the ground running when the time is right.

A: Keep on saving and keep your credit as good as you can. First thing you will want to do is talk to a lender so you can see what your buying power is. I would suggest the looking process should start in Feb/Mar of next year if you are looking to settle in June.

Best of Luck with everything!
