Summer Baseball: Franklin Legion rips Needham

Brad Rebello and Steven Gilbert each had two doubles and three runs scored, and combined for five hits as Zone 6 West-leading Franklin Legion pulled away from host Needham for a 14-6 victory Tuesday night.

Rebello went 3-for-5 and Gilbert went 2-for-5 in a 14-hit offense for Franklin (17-4).

Kevin Dolan went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Kyle Skidmore went 2-for-3 with two runs and a double for Post 75, which jumped in front with five runs in the first inning. Needham cut the lead to 8-6, but Franklin responded with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Starter Connor Guiou worked innings to record the win and improve to 3-0 on the season.

LOWELL 7, NATICK 6: Jack Turner and Jeff Bortman each drove in two runs as Natick (3-12) built a 5-1 lead after four innings, but visiting Lowell rallied with three runs in both the fifth and sixth inning and hung on to edge Post 107 in a Zone 5 game.

Turner went 2-for-3 with a home run and double, Bortman went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, and Dan Nobile tripled and scored a run for Natick. In the bottom of the seventh, Natick scored a run and had two runners on base with one out but Lowell closed out the win with a strikeout and a groundout.

Jacob Stone allowed one run in two innings of relief for Natick.

NORTHBOROUGH 11, CHERRY VALLEY 5: Matt Geoffrion had two hits and two RBIs and starter Zach Mason worked five innings for the win as Northborough (9-14) snapped a six-game losing streak by rolling at Cherry Valley to a Zone 4 victory.

Though facing long odds, Post 234 remains mathematically alive for a state playoff berth with three games left in the regular season.

Mason allowed five runs, just three earned, and struck out four as Northborough built an 11-1 in the top of the fifth. John Maguire closed the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

Mike Stamas went 2-for-4, scored two runs and stole a base, and Jon Friday went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI in a 12-hit offense for Post 234. Northborough scored four runs in the fourth to make it 6-1 and added five more in the fifth.

HOLLISTON 11, HOPKINTON 1 (5 INN.): Starting pitcher Mike Galeaz threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and Tyler Perry?s three-run double sparked a seven-run rally in the third inning as Holliston (6-10-1) beat Hopkinton (2-13-1) in a Central Mass. Senior Babe Ruth South game mercy ruled after five innings.

Andrew Salant hit an RBI single for Holliston, which took a 3-0 lead in the first.

Alex Cohan allowed just two hits in five innings and Jack Stauss hit an RBI single in the third for Hopkinton.

SUDBURY 5, FRAMINGHAM 1: Tim Waggener allowd on unearned run on five hits and struck out six as Sudbury (14-4) rolled past visiting Framingham (10-7-1) in a CMSBR North matchup.

Matt Broadbent had a single, double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Larry Salvucci scored two runs and Ryan Beradino had two hits and an RBI for Sudbury.

Nick Cronin scored on Tristen Perez?s RBI single for Framingham.

MILFORD 9, FRANKLIN 0: Griffin Lynch threw a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and two walks, and Mike Carafella and Jeff Besozzi had three RBIs apiece as Milford (4-12) blanked Franklin (1-17) in a CMSBR South game.

Besozzi went 1-for-1 with a double, Cafarella went 2-for-3 with a double, Matt Hastings went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run and Cole McNanna scored three runs for Milford.

MEDFIELD 7, MEDWAY 3: Garrett Schilling recorded the win with four solid innings of relief and Nat Bonde tripled and scored a run for Medfield (13-4) in a CMSBR non-division win over visiting Medway (9-9)

Sean Harrington hit a two-run single for Medfield while Andrew Henry pitched well for Medway.
